Pack 197 – Raingutter Regatta
Hello Parents and Leaders,

The annual Pack 197 Raingutter Regatta race is scheduled for Saturday, August 21 from 3-5p.m. This is such a fun summer event that includes the trimaran race and a potluck.

Purchase a regatta boat. We have 15’ish boats that can be paid for in cash or PayPal me and picked up at the O’Bryan house. The boats are $6.00 each. Regatta boats can also be purchased from the Scout Store or online. The Scout Shop is located at 807 Kinnear Road.

Scouts shape and finish/paint the boat according to their design and instructions (see attached tips). This is A LOT easier than pinewood derby cars. Sign up to bring a potluck dish on this sign up genius, TBD. Bring a gallon or other large jug of water to help fill the raingutters. Siblings can participate in a separate race at the end. Come on to have a great time!

Looking forward to seeing everyone. If you have any questions, please contact Sarah O’Bryan.

Pack 197 – Summer Fishing

Category : Activities , News , Summer Fun

Pack 197 – Let’s Go Fishing!
At our recent committee meeting, we decided to offer another July pack event for our Cub Scouts. So grab a scout friend and your fishing pole and come meet us at the park!

Who Can Attend?
All Cub Scouts, family members and siblings. This is NOT a drop off event. At least one parent needs to stay with their cub scout(s). PLEASE send me an RSVP so I know how much bait to bring – sarah@obryan.net or text 913.226.8596.

When?
Monday, July 22 from 6:30-8 p.m.

Where?
Hilmar Park
6533 Hilmar Dr

I have reserved the Hilmar Gazebo.

What to bring?
This is a BYOP event – bring your own fishing pole. I will bring some bait (worms) to share with the group. No license is required to fish at this location. However, this is a catch and release pond, and I am not good at taking fish off of hooks so please plan to help your scout if they make a catch.

This is a great opportunity for incoming Bears to work on their “A Bear Goes Fishing” elective.

Feel free to bring your own snack to have under the gazebo. Water will be provided. Please bring a reusable water bottle.

Future Pack 197 Events

2018 4th of July Parade

Pack 197…..I wanted to send out a note reminding everyone of the upcoming Westerville, 4th of July Parade. Last year we had a great turnout with a big group of walkers. We are hoping for another big group this year too. This year, rather than walking with our Pinewood Derby Car float, another Westerville Cub Scout unit, Pack 966 has invited us and all other area Arrowhead units, including Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts to walk together under the banner #Westerville Strong. Having all scouts walking together is a really cool idea and a great way to support our community. Our procession will be led by an American and State of Ohio flags, then a flag from each participating pack/troop.

We are about 2-1/2 weeks away from July 4th. I will send out more information soon with more details as to where and when to drop your scout off and where to pick up your scout at the end. I just wanted to get this event on everyone’s calendars.

Thank you,
Mark Varekojis
Asst. Webelo Den Leader

Once we get a few more registrations, I will send an email to those people attending Day Camp to coordinate volunteering and carpooling.

And last but not least, the patch contest ends on March 15th. As of yesterday, council said they only had 3 entries!! I encourage you to have your kids submit a design. I’ve attached the form. It does not have to be mailed – you can email it to Chris Wiseman. This is so cool to have your design made into a patch; plus, the winner also receives free Day Camp! Have a great weekend.
