2019 Scouting for Food Details (updated)

Good evening Pack 197 parents,

We will be participating in our annual Scouting For Food drive in partnership with Troop 197. Rather than distribute bags on a Saturday (we have historically struggled with participation on distribution), we are distributing bags this Thursday, November 14th from 7pm-8pm.

When: Thursday, November 14th
Where: Meet At Alcott Elementary At 6:45pm. We will distribute bags from 7pm-8pm.
What To Bring: Dress for the weather, bring flashlights.

This is not a drop-off event. We will canvass neighborhoods by dens and parents are required to stay with their cubs. We need participation from all of the families in Pack 197 in order to make this event successful, which is again why we are distributing bags on a date and time where we would normally meet.

We are planning on picking up bags on Sunday, November 17th in the afternoon, but time still TBD. This is to avoid conflict with University of Scouting on Saturday, November 16th.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to reach out to me or your Den Leader.

Thank you for your quick attention to this matter.

Yours in Scouting,
Rob Bryant

2019 Scouting for Food

“A Scout is Helpful. “

Be on the lookout for details for the Pack’s participation in the Scouting for Food service project.

We are planning on distributing bags during the November 11th den meetings from 7pm-8pm and meet at Alcott Elementary for route assignments. We would then pick up the bags on Sunday, November 17th in the afternoon to avoid conflicting with University of Scouting on 11/16.

Feel free to shoot me an email with questions or chat with Nathan Ericson or Russ Leadbetter.

Rob Bryant

ABC Meal Packing

Pack 197 will be serving Heritage Christian Church, our chartering organization, with its yearly ABC Meal Packing event.

What’s Happening? /// We’ll be helping fill and package many thousand dry goods meals for families in need. The dry goods being packaged will be rice, beans, and several other powdered nutrients. They are measured out, and then sealed in quart-size plastic bags for distribution to families. Scouts will be shown how to measure everything, and then will work in teams of six to fill each quart-sized bag.

Who’s Invited? // All Scouts, parents, and older siblings are invited to participate. Due to the nature of keeping a clean food packing station, non-school-aged siblings will wait in the lobby of the church with parents. Pack 197 Scouts have participated in this event the last two years, and it is a very tangible way to see service efforts come to fruition in a very short morning.

When? /// October 12 from 9:00-10:30 — We’ll meet in the church lobby as a group at 8:50.

Where? /// Heritage Christian Church — The same place we have Scouts!

Why? /// To support our Chartering Organization. To serve others. To have fun!

Other Details ///

– Scouts will wear gloves and hairnets while packaging food. If there are any allergies to food preparation/medical gloves, please check in with me about substitutes.

– Parents are requested to stay on-site and participate alongside their Scouts during the service project.

– Please wear your Activity Uniform (uniform shirt), and be ready to have fun!

Families are welcome to show up the morning of the event. However, if you definitely plan on coming, please notify Nathan Ericson.

Scouting For Food Pickup & Delivery

Pack 197 Scouting For Food – Pickup
This weekend is the 2nd part of the 2018 Scouting For Food Drive. Last weekend, bags were distributed around the neighborhoods surrounding Alcott Elementary school. On Saturday, November 17th at 9am, we will be making the rounds and collecting those bags for WARM.

When: Saturday, November 17th 9am-noon

Last weekend, due to weather and other commitments, we had very light participation. This weekend, we need every scout and parent available to help us collect these bags and deliver to WARM. This is a great opportunity for the pack to give back to a great community.

July Service Project – Heritage Cleanup

Parents and Leaders,

Please join us in our service project to give back to Heritage Christian Church on July 22nd from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. We will be cleaning up the Children’s wing including wiping tables, chairs and counters, dusting window sills and baseboards, mopping floors, vacuuming carpets, cleaning toys, replacing batteries, and sorting and organizing books.

This is a great opportunity for us to demonstrate that a Scout is “Helpful” and “Clean”. Your Scout’s service hours will also be logged and will count toward the National Summertime Pack Award.
