Hi Pack 197,

I hope your Scouting year is off to a great start! We’ve got a *LOT* of fun things coming your way in the next several weeks, so I wanted to send you a full rundown of everything that’s going on so you don’t miss out on anything important. I know you receive many emails from us, so my hope is that this will be a one-stop-shop for all of the important info you need for the next month or so.

⛵️ RAINGUTTER REGATTA

I hope we’ll see you all at the Regatta today! Just a reminder on the time/location: It’s at the pavilion at Heritage Church, 2-5 PM. In addition to the race and prizes, we’ll also have snacks, fun yard games, and music for everyone to enjoy!

👕 LAST CALL FOR “CLASS B” APPAREL ORDERS

If you’d like to buy a Pack 197 shirt or hat, the [url=​​https://westervillepack197.org/product-category/apparel/]Pack 197 Apparel Shop[/url] will be open through Monday. We plan to tie-dye shirts at the Fall Campout, so we recommend purchasing one of the white shirts for that purpose. Also note that our “Pack 197” hats can be worn for all Cub Scout ranks as an alternative to purchasing the BSA uniform hats for each rank.

🍿 POPCORN SALE

We kicked-off the Pack 197 Popcorn Sale this week! You can find all of the details in Rob’s email. We unfortunately ran out of order forms and prize info sheets at this week’s meeting, so if your Scout needs one, please reach out to Rob Bryant (rbryant6740@yahoo.com).

📝 MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL – DUE SEPTEMBER 23

Please be sure to renew your Scout’s membership by September 23. See Kristi Tamken’s email for all the details. Our pack will renew its charter with the BSA in October, so it’s important that each Scout and Leader has renewed his or her membership before then.

📌 PARENT INFO PACKET
If you don’t already have one, you can download the 2022/2023 Parent Info Packet here. It includes the annual calendar, contact info, adult code of conduct, and family talent survey. If you haven’t already turned your survey in, I’d love to have those as soon as possible.

🍃 HIGHBANKS CONSERVATION PROJECT – SEPTEMBER 24

On Saturday, September 24th from 10 AM-12 PM, our pack will volunteer to clear some invasive plants out of the natural play area at Highbanks Metropark. We’ll meet near the parking lot by the Natural Play Area.

♻️ PLASTIC BAG RECYCLING PROJECT

We’re planning a Pack service project that will serve two important purposes: (1) helping our planet and (2) showing Heritage Church how thankful we are for their support of our program!

We’re planning to collect plastic bags (and other thin plastic) for recycling. If we are able to collect 500 Lbs of bags in a 6-month period, the recycling company will give us a park bench! We’re planning to donate that bench to Heritage, which they may use in their Prayer Garden or elsewhere on the grounds. We’ll start the collection at this month’s Pack meeting!

⚜️ PACK MEETING – SEPTEMBER 27

At September’s Pack Meeting, we’ll focus on getting everyone prepared for the Fall Campout. The AoL Scouts will help us learn about what equipment everyone should bring to campout, the Webelos will cook us a delicious dutch-oven treat, and we’ll learn how to wash our dishes using the BSA’s Three Bucket Method.

Please bring to the meeting: Chairs and simple mess kits for each person. (The mess kits don’t have to be fancy! A bag with plastic plates and forks will do just fine.) Also bring plastic bags for the recycling project!

🏕 FALL CAMPOUT – OCTOBER 7-9

The Fall Campout is in Hocking Hills this year! It will be Saturday/Sunday (Oct 8-9) for all ranks, plus Webelos/AOL Scouts have the option to stay Friday night as well (Oct 7-9). More information about the Campout will be sent out soon.

(8/30/22) is LAUNCH DAY! WELCOME BACK!

Hi Pack 197,

2019 prior Launch Day

Next Tuesday (8/30) is LAUNCH DAY – and I hope you’re ready to BLAST into the Scouting year! Please join us outside at Heritage (in the East parking lot area) from 6:30 PM to 7:45 PM. We’ll plan to start promptly at 6:30 PM, so please be sure to arrive a little early so you don’t miss out on any of the fun!

While the Scouts are building their rockets, I’m planning to hold a brief parent meeting where Jacob Dircksen (our new Committee Chair) and I will talk through some details for the year.

SUPPLIES & SET-UP HELPERS

We need some supplies to complete our rocket builds (duct tape, craft supplies, etc.) as well as some people to help set-up at 6:00 PM. Please sign-up here if you’re able to help.

PLEASE BRING

• An empty 2-Liter soda bottle for each Scout in your family.
• Folding Chairs
• Drinking Water
• Field Uniform (Class A)

RAINGUTTER REGATTA

Please save the date for the Raingutter Regatta on September 17th (2-5 PM)! If you’d like to purchase a sailboat kit online, you can pick it up at the pack meeting.

Blue and Gold Celebration

When: May 15th 5:30-8pm

Where: Westerville Community Center – Maple Rooms

Details

This is our Blue & Gold Celebration to recognize our Scouts for completing their rank awards and other accomplishments during the 2021-22 Scout year!

We are hosting the event in the Maple Room at the Westerville Community Center. Tickets will be available for purchase to bring the whole family, including extended family. Dinner is being catered by City Barbeque and there will be entertainment by Juggler, Matt Jergens. It’s going to be spectacular!


Fees (pay here)

adults: $13

youth (5-12): $9 pp

toddlers (2-4): $3 pp 


2022 – Cold Toes campout – SUCCESS

To help offset the cost of this event, fee is $10 per camper by 4/4/2022.

Please make sure the Pack has a copy of the BSA medical forms, both parts A & B. Both adults and Scouts need to have these forms to attend camp.

Note:
Scouts should not bring or play on any portable video games or other electronic devices.
Otter Run parking lot is small and we will need to park cars in such a way that some will not be able to move until everyone leaves. Please contact Sarah if you need to leave early before the event.


July 2022 – Day Camp (early bird price ends Mar 31)

Hello Pack 197!
Registration is open for Cub Scout Day Camp. The early bird deadline to save an extra $20 per Scout ends on March 31, and must be paid in full by that date.

We are in Polaris District which is the week of July 11-15.

Day Camp is run with volunteers. Please take a look at your schedule and consider registering yourself as an “adult participant.” We can work out a schedule among the dens to share adult supervision for the kids – at least 2 adult leaders per den each day. If you are registering an incoming Tiger/1st, you must have an adult with your Scout every day.

2022 – Pinewood Derby FLOW

Race Day Schedule 

Saturday February 5th

***IMPORTANT: Car Check-In/Registration Is Now ON SATURDAY***
Due to the high likelihood of bad weather tomorrow, we are proactively moving the race check-in to Saturday morning at 10:00 AM. We’d recommend arriving as close to 10 AM as possible to make sure we have enough time to get everyone registered.

2021 – Pumpkin Race Info – SUCCEESS

2 weeks til the Pumpkin Race!

Since we have so many new Scouts this year, you may be looking for a little more info on this fun tradition!

The Pumpkin Race isn’t actually a race at all!

😂

What it IS is a chance for your Scout to flex their creative muscles and have some fun. The only competition is in design, and we have 6 categories the Scouts will vote on: Character, Scouting, Halloween, Sports, Nature and Other.

In order to participate, your Scout simply needs to select a pumpkin to put on wheels (this could be a dump truck, skate board, etc…feel free to be creative!) decorate the pumpkin, and be sure NOT TO CARVE THE PUMPKIN!

SAMPLE CONTENDERS FROM LAST YEAR

Pumpkins will be rolled down a big wooden ramp and along a track. We cheer on each pumpkin and each Scout gets their own moment in the spotlight!

At this month’s Pack Meeting (Monday the 25th), we will do our traditional flag ceremony and awards…then we begin the show! You are welcome to bring along family to this meeting, and costumes are encouraged but not required. Please be mindful that a Scout is both respectful and kind, therefore costumes should reflect that.

The Pack Meeting will be held inside the Sanctuary area at Heritage, which is super easy! Simply use the main entrance and go straight ahead.

We want this event to be as safe and enjoyable as possible, so all participants and spectators must wear a mask. One final note is that it takes a lot of adult hands to move the track out of storage, check in cars, cleanup, etc…so, next week I will be sending a SignUpGenius to ask for help. Your time and talent is greatly appreciated and is integral to make this event a success for our Scouts and families alike!
